// THE SHORT ANSWER //

Which one suits you?

Choose Hevy if you want a mature, well-tested logger with a social feed and a large community to share workouts with. Choose IronLedger if you want the app to explain why it recommends a given load, want every feature without a subscription, and want to move programs in and out as spreadsheets. Hevy is the more established product with the bigger community; IronLedger shows the reason behind each recommended load and has no paid tier at all.

// WHERE IRONLEDGER WINS //

Three things we do better.

It shows its work

On the five built-in programs it runs on, every load recommendation shows the target, where it came from, and a plain-English reason. The engine is deterministic, not a language model, so the same history always produces the same suggestion.

Nothing is behind a paywall

There is no Pro tier to compare against. Analytics, program templates, the custom builder, import and export are all in the free app.

Your program moves in and out

Import a CSV or Excel plan, train it, then export a coach-readable result with targets, completed values, notes and effort.

// WHERE HEVY WINS //

Three things they do better.

Stated plainly, because a comparison that only flatters one side is not worth reading.

A real community

Hevy has a social feed and a large active user base. If you want to follow training partners, share sessions and get comments, IronLedger has nothing equivalent and no plans for it.

Publicly available on Android

Hevy ships on Google Play to anyone. IronLedger is still in Android closed testing, which means joining a tester group first. That is a genuine disadvantage today.

Maturity and track record

Hevy has been through far more releases, devices and user reports. IronLedger is new, with a small user base and no third-party ratings yet.

// WHO SHOULD CHOOSE WHICH //

Pick the one that fits how you train.

Choose Hevy

You want a proven logger, you train with friends and value the social side, or you need a fully public Android app today.

Choose IronLedger

You run your own programming, you want to understand why a weight was suggested rather than trust it, and you would rather not pay a subscription to see your own analytics.

// DIRECT ANSWERS //

Questions people ask before switching.

Is IronLedger free compared to Hevy?

IronLedger is entirely free with no in-app purchases. Hevy has a free tier plus a paid Pro subscription, so some features sit behind a payment.

Can I move my Hevy data into IronLedger?

Hevy can export workout data as CSV. IronLedger imports programs from CSV and Excel, so a plan can be brought across, though the two formats are not designed to match each other.

Does IronLedger have a social feed like Hevy?

No. IronLedger has no social feed, following or comments, and none is planned. If community is what you want from a training app, Hevy is the better fit.

Every claim has a date.

Try it alongside Hevy

IronLedger is free with no trial to expire, so running a week in both costs nothing but the logging.

On Android, Hevy is easier to get

Hevy is publicly listed on Google Play. IronLedger is still in closed testing, which means joining a Google Group and opting in with the same account. That is a real disadvantage today, and it is the honest answer.
