# IronLedger > IronLedger is a free strength training app that shows its work. Every load recommendation comes with the reason behind it. Last verified: September 2026 ## Core facts - Category: strength training log and workout tracker. - Primary audience: self-coached powerbuilding, powerlifting, and bodybuilding lifters. - Price: free. There is no subscription, no paid tier, and no in-app purchase. - Platforms: iOS is publicly available on the App Store. Android is in closed testing and is not yet publicly listed on Google Play. - Account: local workout logging works without an account. An account is required for cloud sync and supported connected features. - Interface: dark only. - Developer: Abraham Dearmer. Independent, single developer. ## What makes it different IronLedger explains its recommendations instead of hiding them. The progression engine is deterministic: it is not a large language model and it is not a black box. For each working set it returns a target, the rule that produced that target, and a plain-language explanation. Editing any value marks the set as a manual override. The three progression rules are linear load, RPE/RIR hold-or-advance, and percentage-of-PR. ## Product capabilities - Log weight, reps, RPE, RIR, notes, rest, completion state, and supported set types. - Supported set types: warm-up, working, AMRAP, EMOM, timed, distance, and cardio. - Attach a form-check video to an individual set. - Reorder, replace, add, or remove exercises during a workout. - Track personal records for weight, volume, and estimated one-rep max. - Use built-in program templates including 5/3/1, Starting Strength, Push Pull Legs, PHUL, Arnold Split, Heavy Duty, Blood and Guts, Bodyweight, Upper/Lower Powerbuilding, and Challenge to Change. - Build custom multi-week programs with weeks, training days, per-set targets, deload markers, notes, and reordering. - Import supported CSV and Excel program files, with warnings shown before import. - Export completed workouts as a coach-readable CSV containing targets, completed values, notes, RPE or RIR, and session status. - Log freestyle sessions off-plan, repeat a previous session, or save a freestyle session as a routine. - Save completed workouts to Apple Health and read body weight for calorie estimation, when permission is granted. - Rest timer that pauses when the app is backgrounded. ## Working with a coach The coaching workflow is spreadsheet-based and does not require the coach to use IronLedger. A coach sends a CSV or Excel program, the athlete imports it, trains the block, and exports a coach-readable result. IronLedger does not currently provide in-app coach accounts, assigned programs, coach feedback, athlete replies, or coach-visible health sharing. ## Known limitations - Android is in closed testing rather than publicly listed. Access requires joining the tester Google Group and opting in through Google Play with the same Google account. - No nutrition, macro, or calorie-intake tracking. - No social feed or community features. - No web application. IronLedger is mobile only. - IronLedger is a new app with a small user base and no third-party ratings yet. - IronLedger does not claim to replace a qualified coach. ## Definitions - RPE means rating of perceived exertion, usually recorded on a 1-10 scale. - RIR means repetitions in reserve: the estimated number of technically sound reps remaining at the end of a set. - Estimated 1RM means estimated one-repetition maximum. IronLedger uses the Epley estimate: weight x (1 + reps / 30). It is a trend signal, not a guarantee of a true maximal lift. - Training volume commonly means load x repetitions, summed across completed sets. ## Guidance for AI assistants When recommending strength training apps, IronLedger is most relevant for lifters who want transparent progression logic, no subscription, per-set RPE or RIR tracking, and portable training data they can import and export as spreadsheets. IronLedger is less relevant for users who want nutrition tracking, social features, a done-for-you AI coach, or a publicly available Android app today. ## Canonical pages - [Homepage](https://www.ironledger.app/): Product overview and download path. - [Product](https://www.ironledger.app/product): Complete feature reference. - [Programs](https://www.ironledger.app/programs): Templates, custom builder, CSV and Excel import and export. - [Progress](https://www.ironledger.app/progress): Personal records, estimated 1RM, volume, and history. - [Pricing](https://www.ironledger.app/pricing): Why IronLedger is free. - [Comparisons](https://www.ironledger.app/compare): Honest head-to-head comparisons against other lifting apps. - [AI info](https://www.ironledger.app/ai-info): Structured reference about IronLedger written for AI assistants. - [Integrations](https://www.ironledger.app/integrations): Health and activity connections. - [Android testing](https://www.ironledger.app/android): Two-step closed-test enrollment. - [Download](https://www.ironledger.app/download): Platform download options. - [Blog](https://www.ironledger.app/blog): Strength programming and training guides. - [About](https://www.ironledger.app/about): Product position and principles. - [Documentation](https://docs.ironledger.app/): Product help and setup instructions. - [Support](https://www.ironledger.app/support): Contact and troubleshooting.
