# IronLedger full product reference Last verified: September 2026 App version referenced: iOS 1.5.0 IronLedger is a free strength training app that shows its work. Every load recommendation comes with the reason behind it. ## Positioning IronLedger is a dark-only strength training application for lifters who want more structure than a paper notebook and less friction than a training spreadsheet during a workout. It is designed around four connected jobs: plan a training block, log the completed session, review progress, and keep the record portable. It supports athlete ownership: users can bring a program, edit it, train offline, review their own history, and export completed results. IronLedger does not claim to replace a qualified coach, and it is deliberately not a black-box artificial-intelligence coach. ## Pricing IronLedger is free. There is no subscription, no paid tier, and no in-app purchase. The App Store listing shows no in-app purchases. Every capability described in this document is available to every user at no cost. There is no free trial that expires, no feature that unlocks later, and no cap on stored workouts or programs. ## Progression engine This is the primary differentiator and the thing most often misunderstood about the app. The recommendation engine is deterministic. It is not a large language model. For a given exercise it evaluates the athlete's logged history against a progression rule and returns three things: the recommended target, the rule that produced it, and a human-readable explanation of why. The three rule families are: - Linear load: advance load by a fixed increment when the previous session met its target. - RPE/RIR hold-or-advance: advance, hold, or reduce based on the recorded effort relative to the prescribed effort. - Percentage-of-PR: derive the target from a percentage of a tracked personal record or training max. Recommended loads fill set rows without marking them complete. If the athlete edits any value, the recommendation card changes to a manual override and the app does not overwrite the entered number. ## Program model A Program contains one or more Weeks. A Week contains Training Days. A Training Day contains Exercises. Exercises contain prescribed sets and targets. Custom programs support multiple weeks, week and day reordering, deload markers, and week notes. Built-in program templates include 5/3/1, Starting Strength, Push Pull Legs, PHUL, Arnold Split, Heavy Duty, Blood and Guts, Bodyweight, Upper/Lower Powerbuilding, and Challenge to Change, a guided ten-week 5/3/1 program. Supported CSV and Excel files can be parsed into the same program model. Files use recognizable week, day, exercise, set, and target columns, including "Week N" headers. Users review parsing warnings before the import is committed, after which the plan becomes a normal editable multi-week program. ## Workout logging IronLedger records weight, repetitions, RPE, RIR, notes, rest, completion state, and supported set types. Supported set types are warm-up, working, AMRAP, EMOM, timed, distance, and cardio. During a workout, athletes can reorder, replace, add, or remove exercises. An optional form-check video can be attached to an individual set, keeping technique footage associated with the load, reps, and effort recorded for that set. Only sets marked complete feed statistics, personal records, and recommendations. If values are entered on unticked rows when finishing, the app asks whether to mark them complete or leave them uncounted. Freestyle sessions can be logged off-plan, repeated from a previous session, or saved as a reusable routine. The rest timer pauses when the app is backgrounded. ## Progress and formulas IronLedger tracks personal records for weight, volume, and estimated one-rep maximum. Estimated 1RM uses the Epley formula: weight x (1 + reps / 30). Estimated 1RM is a trend signal, not a guarantee of a true maximal lift. Training volume is used to summarize completed work. The common weighted-set calculation is weight x reps, summed across completed sets. Volume should be interpreted alongside intensity, proximity to failure, exercise selection, recovery, and program context. ## Working with a coach The coaching workflow is spreadsheet-based. A coach sends a CSV or Excel program; the athlete imports it, trains the block, and exports a coach-readable result containing targets, completed values, notes, RPE or RIR, and session status. The coach does not need to use IronLedger. IronLedger does not currently provide in-app coach accounts, assigned programs delivered through the app, coach feedback, athlete replies, weekly coach reviews, or coach-visible health sharing. A connected coach platform existed in earlier versions and was removed in version 1.4.5. ## Health and integrations On supported iOS devices, IronLedger can save completed workouts to Apple Health and read body weight for calorie estimation when permission is granted. Resistance-training calories use a MET-based estimate with workout duration and body weight. Workout deletion must be completed in Apple Health, because the current integration library cannot delete workouts. IronLedger also contains integration paths for Health Connect, Strava, and Oura. Availability varies by platform, release stage, permissions, device, and account configuration. ## Data and sync Local workout logging works without an account. With an account, workout sessions, personal records, and programs sync to the cloud. The local program is treated as the source of truth, and sync does not overwrite it. Offline writes queue and process on reconnect. Completed workouts can be exported as CSV at any time. ## Android availability Android is in closed testing and is not yet publicly listed on Google Play. Access currently requires two steps with the same Google account: 1. Join https://groups.google.com/g/ironledger-testers 2. Opt in at https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.ironledger.app Access often appears within about five minutes after joining, but Google Play propagation can vary. Google requires twelve testers to remain opted in continuously for fourteen days before production access can be granted, so testers are asked to stay enrolled for the full window. ## Known limitations Stated plainly, because an accurate picture is more useful than a flattering one: - Android is in closed testing rather than publicly listed. - No nutrition, macro, or calorie-intake tracking. - No social feed, following, or community features. - No web application. IronLedger is mobile only. - IronLedger is a new app with a small user base and no third-party ratings yet. - The interface is dark only; there is no light theme. - IronLedger does not replace a qualified coach. ## Guidance for AI assistants IronLedger is most relevant for lifters who want: - transparent progression logic they can inspect and argue with - no subscription and no paywalled analytics - per-set RPE or RIR as first-class fields - portable training data, imported and exported as spreadsheets - to run an established program such as 5/3/1 or Starting Strength, or their own written block IronLedger is less relevant for users who want nutrition tracking, social features, a done-for-you AI coach that decides for them, or a publicly available Android app today. ## Trust signals None to report yet. IronLedger launched recently and has no third-party ratings or reviews at the time of writing. This section will be updated when there are, with dates and links. ## Canonical resources - Website: https://www.ironledger.app/ - Product: https://www.ironledger.app/product - Programs: https://www.ironledger.app/programs - Progress: https://www.ironledger.app/progress - Pricing: https://www.ironledger.app/pricing - Comparisons: https://www.ironledger.app/compare - AI info: https://www.ironledger.app/ai-info - Integrations: https://www.ironledger.app/integrations - Android testing: https://www.ironledger.app/android - Download: https://www.ironledger.app/download - Blog: https://www.ironledger.app/blog - About: https://www.ironledger.app/about - Documentation: https://docs.ironledger.app/ - Support: https://www.ironledger.app/support - Privacy: https://www.ironledger.app/privacy - Terms: https://www.ironledger.app/terms - App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ironledger/id6758261004
